MUSIC

What is music?

It is my cacoon. My secret room to get back to myself which I am almost never with. It is the music of the souls that echoes in our hearts. It is a reflection of who we are at the present. It is the mood changer and a mood definer.
No choices in music. Words that connect to the chords of our hearts. It is a direct entry to our true self. Our identity.

It makes us cry, laugh, inspires us, changes our mood. It is the that one thing that lets our mind stop reasoning and lets the heart do the talking. It's only when listening to music are we reflecting what our hearts feel.
Romantic, metal, hip-hop, pop, it can be anything, classical, jazz; everyone has a preference. As for me, I have none. I love to drown myself in the entire ocean.

Music is like the earthquake machine that Tesla created that brought down his own lab. Music created by any instrument would have a frequency, and if that frequency matches my frequency, the mood that I am in, it would change me. You could also compare it to the illusory world of Pandora. Sitting here I could be transported anywhere. A time machine, a hypnotize. Call it whatever you want, it's everything and nothing. It's like the air. It's essential for our life but we don't know what its true potential is. It's become an indispensable part of our life.

Music can be a religion too. We have scientists who try to prove its existence in the octaves and the clefs, and you also have the musicians who believe that and learn the science and then take a giant leap of faith to know its true identity. But what this religion doesn't have is atheists. It never can have any.

Ever tried any of these? Watching a scary/horror movie on mute? Listen to the breeze as it sweeps across the forest, whispering the news of the other side? Tried to emulate the beats of the rain dancing on your roof? Not move your feet to a peppy number?

I love music. I don't know what it is. Can't explain it. There is no style that I like, hate, dislike. They are all family and who I want to visit is up to me.

Strategic planners, lateral thinking and stand up comedy

 Strategic planners have this innate habit and drive to connect seemingly unrelated dots and try to make sense of the world around them. No wonder that they immerse themselves into so many different kinds of things - and each will find its way into the work they do. Planners need to write BRIEFS not A creative brief

I was reading BBH Lab's list of 100 things planners should know, brilliantly captures by Chaz Wigley, Chairman of BBH Asia. (https://www.bbh-labs.com/chazs-100-things-a-planner-should-know/ ) The 10th point in that list is an interesting one. He says - "If you expect creative people to present you with multiple options then you should be ready to write multiple strategies to tackle the problem." I completely subscribe to this point of view. In fact, I think it should be the way we tackle creative briefs. But any look at a creative brief format of most agencies, you'll notice that it strips one of the ability to write multiple ones. The process is tedious, a lot of the columns are unnecessary that makes one question why it was called BRIEF in the first place. I feel a lot of them have too many unnecessary information points for the creative. They, in any case, rarely read it. They don't like briefs, they prefer the BRIEFING.
