Ramblings of life and science

Thing are moving really fast. Gone are the days when memory was forced to play the tutor to the insipid life one lived. Technology has become the stick for us mortal humans to lean on to continue in our quest for life. In wanting to live longer to unearth the cosmic secrets, we are merging our minds and souls with robots and losing ourselves in the realms of steel and technology and digging deeper within their tin souls to answer questions that have haunted us for centuries. Wheels and circles The wheel gave birth to circles and cycles and ever since, life began to imitate that looped thing. Seeds planted. Trees growing. Flowers blooming. Pollen transportation. Seeds falling and trees growing elsewhere. This existed even before we began. But we wanted to implement this further. The cycle we created is now reflected in everything we see, hear touch and feel and taste. It’s in senses and in our genes. In our cells, molecules, atoms and maybe even in our consciousness and soul.

Ecommerce angst

Recently, Flipkart faced severe flack due to their Billion Day offer. 6th October will be marked as the day Flipkart lost at least 100 customers to say the least. There were many things that went against them: 1) Due to unpredictable traffic, the site crashed on many occasions. 2) Products went out of stock a couple of seconds after the sale. 3) COD seemed like the best bet as people who tried to use the online banking facility faced severe problems. 4) last but not the least, there were speculations of price inflation before the sale. I am not much of an ecommerce guy. But I do shop. None of these seemed completely new as far as retail went. In a brick and mortar store, the same issues are faced but no brand that I know as had such a terrific virtual thrashing (maybe wise to not have ecommerce website when you have a retail space) I have seen massive traffic jams outside the Oberoi mall during their biannual happiness sale. Condolence

Facebook is a great place to mourn someone's loss. It creates a great virtual social gathering avoiding all the loud crying. But it also brings unwanted friends close to you. The thing is, Facebook announcement is great but before people comment, think they should once relook at their profile pic before posting a comment... You can't have a profile pic of someone laughing and posting that they are sorry for the loss. Or a photo of a party shot with a bottle of vodka in the hand or a girl giving her wannabe sexy duck face selfie pose and have them give condolences messages. It doesn't work... If they appeared to the funeral, their actual representation would be like they are dressed to party or trying to look sexy for a great date... This is plain ridiculous and not something that I love to see. But hell, cutting all seriousness away, it's damn funny to say the least...

Of Tarzan and singing

I had my doubts that Tarzan is Indian. That dressing sense is not one that the westerners can conceive. And Mogly is definitely his son. The reason that I am confident that he is Indian is revealed by his singing... No, he isn't a bathroom singer. But the daily riyaaz of the alaap from the beautiful raaga is proof enough. He surely tried his hand (or mouth) at it. He obviously couldn't join the course and must have observed from afar... Which is why even now, we seem him desperately trying to master the first level.... Whether jumping from tree to tree.. Chasing animals.... Calling out his love... Such passion!!!!

Autos and women

There's scientific proof that autos were made to demonstrate the inexplicable traits of women... 1) get caught trying to overtake an auto... And the similarity will stare at you... Apart from the auto itself, no one has any clue where it wants to go. Neither the driver, nor the passenger, and not even the damn tyres. This demonstrates how a woman's brain works. 2) just like an irritating wife or nagging girlfriend, they have the habit of sticking their noses in to everything. Observe an auto from the sky, and you'll notice the similarity. One small gap and they stuff their nose... And if the topic is not what they want (gap not enough), they quickly shift to another topic, caring the least bit to people around.... 3) They have running meters like a woman's mouth. Just doesn't stop... And to top it, just so that there is no interference in the monologue, they have a "do not touch me" written on it. As though it's foreplay I am looking forward to...

Political views

Politics has a strange way to change people... Generally, when one gets to a high vantage point, one is in awe of the sight and gets very reflective of his life and how small he is in comparison and how insignificant one is in the realm of life. Whether it is a view from outer space, a view from the flight, a view from the middle of the ocean, a view from the smallest hill or even from the tallest building near or neighborhood. But in politics, when one reaches such a vantage point, and had been given the power to see the larger things, he tends to feel just the opposite. Instead of feeling small, he feels huge. Instead of humility he feels pride. Instead of breathing in the beauty and wanting to make a difference, he gets blinded by power. The biggest reason for this is education and one's upbringing. I just wish that more educated people actually study politics not to find loopholes but to make a difference. Spiderman's epic dialogue of : "with great power comes great

Elections Musing

Coming from an advertising background, I find the elections pretty weird. Even from a marketing perspective actually it seems strange. So often, we are briefed on jobs for targeted communication. Hyper local activities as they call them. And then there are brand campaigns. I am surprised that the elections confer up with brand campaigns but have no hyper local communication... Should I vote for someone who has done great work in Gujarat or Delhi or nowhere or do I vote for someone who has done since good work outside my house. But strangely, I never see those who contest near my house anytime but during elections. And that too, because the party they represent requires them to. Why can't we as people push to see those contesting in our areas more often. Make a list of what they would do and evaluate them on that? More than BJP, Congress or AAP campaigns, wish I could see more localized ads apart from those dirty banners. Even if not adds, at least see them more often, intera
