A boat race or a demonstration of rhythm?
Often we have seen things in one way and we stumble upon some video or a quote or something that takes us into a rabbit hole into the topic we have been observing on a myopic lens and we come out of that rabbit hole - richer, wiser and see it from a completely different lens.
Everything we know, hear and understand can have different interpretations. Much like the speed of light - it all depends on the frame of the observer.
I've viewed the Kerala Boat Festivals as a great feat of human strength and unity and an iconic celebration that is a cultural magnet and a badge of pride for Kerala. And then - I chanced upon this video -
It's a completely new way of seeing the whole boat racing act. It's seen from a musician's eye - that is keen to see patterns, rhythm and dare I say a tinge of philosophy. It's the ability to look at music - this intangible art form but seeing something so concrete that you cannot unsee it ever.
The larger idea of unity - the essence of unity - the story that everyone from all walks of life can make a difference are things you could here in a Ted Talk - but to see it from a rhythmic keyhole - the dimensions and the power of the message change completely.
Music is a hobby - I can consume it, play a little, see the art side and the scientific side of that art form too. And I love how neither which way you are exposed to it - either scientifically or from an artistic way - they both conjoin like those rail tracks you see in the horizon. Physically apart forever - but to your eyes - they seem to be joining hands in the distant.
This piece of content and music and direction and cinematography and even the things said on the video moved me.
